eBASEŽ PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

What is eBASEŽ?

eBASEŽ is an application generator to help you solve e-business problems - at dot.com speed.  eBASE integrates mainframe and web server software to help you revitalize, extend, enhance, integrate and transition mainframe legacy applications to new channels:  the web, wireless, IVR, ATM's, etc. eBASE provides a powerful, yet easy to use, beginning-to-end solution for web-to-mainframe needs. It is complementary software to web application servers such as IBM’s WebSphere.

eBASE eliminates the major obstacles to accessing legacy application database information on the S/390 mainframe.  It provides robust and secure access, update and delivery capabilities for all mainframe data. Unlike the alternative approaches, eBASE:

Does not rely on existing mainframe screens or transactions
Does not require a mainframe or web server database management system
Does not need new mainframe code or scripts
Requires minimal programming on the web server

eBASE uses proven, proprietary mainframe-based data definition and accessing technology. To make any mainframe data available to a web-enabled application, you simply define the data characteristics and environment to eBASE - one time.  Data defined to eBASE is available to web applications in Java/Enterprise JavaBean or COM/DCOM environments.

eBASE Paradigm

The eBASE environment retains the application data on the S/390 database, delivers the information to the user through a web server or client-server layer and presents information using any standard presentation layer such as the web browser or wireless devices.  The developer adds minimal code to web server templates which invoke the selected object and methods.  The results display in a standard html presentation format.

Application Data

eBASE lets you use the application data directly from the S/390 application databases.  When you retain the data in the application itself, you include all the strengths of the application environment.

There is only one copy of the data - it is always current. Data for the customer is up-to-date at all times.

Data is under the control of S/390 security, removed from unauthorized access.

You do not have to synchronize or store redundant copies of the data.

eBASE does not require an intermediate server database.

Applications processed on the S/390 mainframe are scalable and accustomed to handling large volumes of transaction activity.
Delivery Channels

You can use new channels, such as the web, to deliver information to the customer.

The information is available to customer any time - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  He can work whenever he wants.

The application is available anywhere the customer has access to the channel:  phones for interactive voice response, wireless devices, ATM's, web browsers.

The user interface can be graphical and intuitive, reducing customer errors and frustration.  The web browser environment is familiar to most people and easy to work through.

You can personalize the interface, presenting information tailored to the user.  For example, you can display text in the customer language choice.  You can select the pricing options which apply to the customer type - retail or wholesale.  You can display a list of choices based on customer buying patterns.

Using a web delivery channel has minimum impact on the user - the only software required is the web browser.
Integrate Applications

Not only can you put together the information from all parts of the primary application database, you can integrate other application data into one user view.

Since you build the CICS transactions directly in eBASE, you do not have to rely on current screen formats.  You combine data from multiple tables into one compact transaction without labels or extraneous screen information.

You can put together data from multiple applications and regions to make a logical user view.  The dialog can display the customer name and address from Customer Relationship Manager together with the order.  You can verify the items are in stock by checking inventory at the same time the order is submitted.
Development With eBASE

Using eBASE is fast and easy.  The eBASE product is built with eBASE and runs on the web.  You can use ASP, JSP or Enterprise JavaBean application servers.

Fill out the dictionary to describe the database information. Note that you can use any database information - you are not limited to current 3270 screen layouts.

Define the presentation layer.  For the web, this means setting up a simple html page.  You can use your favorite html editor for this step.

Using the eBASE templates, complete the limited code necessary to specify the methods and properties to use.  This code is on the web server so the business logic is encapsulated.  The process is quick and simple.

There is no mainframe code.  Enter parameters for the mainframe segments through the eBASE web pages.

eBASE works on most platforms.  You can use your standard web server and application server.

Enhance Current Process

Now that you have eBASE connecting the S/390 to the new channels, you have more options.

You can enhance the current application by adding new data, new logic or new transactions.  Again, you do this without mainframe or application code.

You can activate the built-in query function simply by setting parameters.

You can select data from the application to deliver to the user

eBASE is used when the primary application or database resides on an IBM mainframe. It does not require an intermediate non-mainframe database to be used.

eBASE integrates Computrol's long-established mainframe code technology with newly developed web browser technology to address the high-end needs of developers in today's exploding internet, extranet and intranet market.

eBASE allows developers in any industry to extend legacy applications or create new applications by adding web browser (or other channel) to mainframe functionality without new mainframe code. Data is retained, secured and managed in the legacy application's original database.
