Integration of eBASEŽ with IBMs WebSphere Completed
ST. LOUIS, MO. -- August 11, 2000 -- Computrol, Inc. today announced that it has completed the integration of eBASEŽ, Computrol's software for Web-enabling applications and data on IBMs S/390 Enterprise Server, with three key editions of IBMs WebSphere. eBASE now works with the Standard, Advanced and Enterprise editions of IBMs WebSphere, one of the leading software platforms for e-business. Computrol also announced that eBASE is positioned for migration to WebSphere Version 3.5 and to IBMs CICS Transaction Server. WebSphere Version 3.5 is scheduled for release at the end of the summer. More than 70% of the worlds data resides on IBM S/390 Enterprise Servers. "We believe that there is a growing demand to unlock that data," said Mike Allen, President of Computrol." eBASE working with a Web application server like WebSphere, provides the only available solution for generating applications with secure, high volume and personalized access to that data without disturbing the legacy applications or requiring significant programming." "Our eBASE technology is an exciting entry in the e-business arena," said Bob Parks, Chairman of Computrol. "It complements existing e-business infrastructure software and can be used with any existing business application or with new business initiatives such as CRM, EDI, enterprise information portal and supply chain integration." Parks added that "eBASE takes advantage of the data security and integrity provided by IBMs CICS software by adding new and more efficient CICS transactions or by using specific existing CICS transactions. CICS is important to our current eBASE strategy and we are committed to keeping current with each new CICS release." "Completion of the integration with WebSphere is an important milestone in the development of eBASE because it allows us to support Java and Java Server Pages development in the e-business markets" , said Holly Fuller, executive vice president of Computrol. "The initial release of eBASE was a Microsoft NT version on ASP. With both the ASP and JSP versions, we now provide access for most of the e-business development market." "The latest release of WebSphere contained improvements including support for Java Server Pages 1.0 that were very important to allow us to complete the integration of eBASE with the three versions of WebSphere," said Mike Lusicic, Director of Technology for Computrol. "eBASE is also now compatible with the latest version of the CICS Transaction Server as well as earlier versions of CICS back to Version 4.1" About eBASEeBASE is software that integrates Enterprise Server and Web server components to rapidly and effectively revitalize, extend, integrate and transition Enterprise Server-based legacy applications. eBASE provides access to new channels such as the Web, wireless, IVR and ATMs and to new business initiatives such as CRM, EDI, enterprise information portals and supply chain management. eBASE provides a powerful, yet easy to use, beginning-to-end solution for Web-to-S/390 needs. It is complementary to most Web application servers, including IBMs WebSphere. Unlike alternative approaches, eBASE:
eBASE not only accesses, searches and retrieves Enterprise Server data across multiple databases, multiple applications and multiple regions for inquiry purposes but also adds new records and updates existing records on the IBM S/390. eBASE accesses S/390 data directly using proven, reliable and secure CICS transaction processing combined with unique requests for any combination of selected data elements. It can also use existing CICS transactions to take advantage of the strengths of existing applications.
