Computrol Adds Dynamic DB2 Access To eBASEŽ

eBASEŽ feature provides dynamic "Real-Time Anytime" access to DB2 data. Now you can retrieve, update and export data with no programming or SQL definition.

ST. LOUIS, MO. -- August 1, 2000 -- Computrol, Inc. today announced the availability of the latest enhancement to eBASEŽ, Computrol’s software which web-enables S/390 applications and data. The eBASE DB2 Dynamic Processor provides "Real-Time Anytime" access to DB2 data. This new upgrade will allow customer service, marketing, business development and other personnel to dynamically access DB2 data and meet their unique needs.

Computrol’s new eBASE DB2 Dynamic Processor provides for easy and complete access to DB2 data no matter where the data resides. "Now customer service representatives, marketing personnel and managers can retrieve information without the laborious and technical process of defining an SQL query," said Holly Fuller, Executive Vice President and Director of Application Design for Computrol. "The quick point-and-click user interface collects the query criteria and provides the desired output. This process brings the DB2 data down from the mainframe to the workstation and provides each unique user with the information they requested. All of this information can then be viewed, updated or even exported to spreadsheets, word processors or other database systems."

"The eBASE DB2 Dynamic Processor is unique because it is powerful, yet so easy to use," said Jim Lyon, Director of Projects for Computrol. "Queries are straight forward. They allow for single value, value ranges or lists of value arguments that can be used to mine the database. The number of selection arguments is unlimited and wildcard selections enhance the data mining capabilities. Our point and click interface gives the users total control over the information they choose to display and the format in which this information is displayed. Queries can be saved and reused. File updates can be controlled using the eBASE editing and security features. This functionality also creates an audit trail and controls changes made in the database."

"We will launch our first installation of the eBASE DB2 Dynamic Processor at MasterCard International," said JR Abbott, Computrol’s MasterCard account manager. "This new DB2 tool will be used by MasterCard to provide customer service, business staff and customers dynamic access to their unique billing information."

The eBASE DB2 Dynamic Processor will be available for license from Computrol as an add-on to eBASE or as a stand-alone tool for DB2 access only.

About eBASE

eBASE integrates mainframe and web server software to rapidly and effectively revitalize, extend, enhance, integrate and transition mainframe legacy applications to new channels such as the web, wireless, IVR and ATM’s and to new business initiatives such as CRM, EDI, enterprise information portals and supply chain management. eBASE provides a powerful, yet easy to use, beginning-to-end solution for web-to-mainframe needs. It is complementary software to most web application servers, including IBM’s WebSphere, Sun’s iPlanet and Microsoft’s ASP and others.

Unlike alternative approaches, eBASE:

Does not rely on existing mainframe screens or transactions
Does not require a non-mainframe database management system
Does not need new mainframe code or scripts
Requires little or no mainframe programming

eBASE not only accesses, searches and retrieves mainframe data across multiple databases, multiple applications and multiple regions for inquiry purposes but also adds new records and updates existing records on the S/390. eBASE accesses S/390 data directly using proven, reliable and secure CICS transaction processing combined with unique requests for any combination of selected data elements. It can also use existing CICS transactions to take advantage of the strengths of existing applications.
